 XAVIER THXMAS – ARTIST PROFILE

avier Thxmas is an upcoming hip-hop

artist from Mpumalanga that’s

currently based in Johannesburg.

Growing up in a middle-income family, he has

seen and experienced life from both privileges

and struggles. His mother worked as a teacher

and his father was a sports coach and apartheid

war hero. These two remain Xavier’s role

models and inspiration for the messages in his

music.

Since arriving on the Hip-Hop scene in 2017,

he’s built a respected name for himself as a

notorious lyricist from standout features with

eMalahleni’s Shinjuku Gangular Hip-Hop

group. In 2020, he dropped two solo singles,

DXMMY & D.I.A which certified `his rap skill

level from the local upcoming rappers. He

shifted a gear up last year when he released

POWERS, which was his 2021 top streamed

track on SoundCloud. 

This was followed up

with the sequel of his alter ego when he

released DXMMY II, which made placements

on the Distrokid Rap Scallion Top 50 Playlist

for 2 weeks on Spotify. His first viral sensation

only came in September when he released

BALLER along with its music video which

reached over 2000 views on YouTube in its

first week. 2021 marked a more fierce arrival

of Xavier Thxmas, suggesting that his quest for

becoming one of hip-hop’s greats is far from

the end.

Fast forward to the present day, Xavier Thxmas is

preparing to release his lead single, SPILLION,

from his second EP titled TASTE THE CHEESE.

The track title means “Experience” in isiZulu,

which is how Xavier describes his rapping

ability and musical flavor. He expresses how

long he has been putting in hours of practice

into his music and he conveys this using his

signature trap flow to form punch lines off

from popular, day-to-day ghetto lingo. Most

importantly, Xavier reveals he is a student of

the game as he leaves traces of inspirational

messages for the hip-hop community,

suggesting that how he grows and conducts

himself is guided under the wing of

experience.

When asked about his upcoming EP he

described it as

“A rap or trap experience that feels like dining

at a 5-star Kasi restaurant.

Kind of like having the option to order your

favorite burger from a big franchise and

mixing it with chips and Russians from the

hottest Kota spot on the block.”

The highly awaited project is anticipated to

break the internal hip-hop culture borders,

mainly between the suburbs and the

ghetto/Kasi. The style of sonics and content is

aimed to engage the cool kids in town and the

streetwise kids in the ghetto, all under one

project in the name of Hip-Hop. Executive

produced by Garry Chemist, the project is

packaged with infusions of mainstream hip hop sounds along with raw and local trap

nuances delivered with ear-cracking bars from

start to finish.

The road to TASTE THE CHEESE begins with

SPILLION and one can only wait to see how

impactful the rollout of this will be. More

importantly, how appreciative will the Hip Hop community be of this project? Only time

will tell.

2021 showed how Xavier Thxmas

grew his performance portfolio as he

became a regular rager on the stages of

Moscow Lounge in Maboneng.

Along with putting in work on the

the stage for different events around

Johannesburg, Xavier has also

partnered up with Garry Chemist and

begun hosting their events and

shows at Velvet Hour Greenside &

Omni Bar Braamfontein.

In 2021, Xavier Thxmas won the Respublica: Be The Star

Central Competition alongside Phemelo Saxer. This

crowned them as the best upcoming talent out of all

Respublica residences in South Africa.
