In the heart of Motherwell, Gqeberha, a luminous wordsmith emerged, born and raised in Eastern Cape, Nwabisa Sume, affectionately known as StaticFlo. A paradox encapsulated in her name, StaticFlo is a lyrical genius who seamlessly blends femininity with an unleashed beast on stage, breaking barriers for women and empowering the mic.
Her journey with Hip Hop started in high school around 2010, a time when the male-dominated scene yearned for a fresh perspective. StaticFlo became the darling of Gqeberha crowds, bringing rich and meaningful subjects to the forefront with her eloquence, raw energy, and humble demeanor.
The stage became her canvas, and in 2011, she recorded "Mandela Bae" with Reason The Mass (Sizwe Alakine), headlining the One Blood Festival in Port Elizabeth. Recognized by Kwazulu Natal Producer Mbzet, StaticFlo featured in his Ladies Night cypher, marking a significant moment in her rise.
Now a mother and wife, StaticFlo believes that Hip Hop is a potent tool for education, engagement, and societal shaping, especially in confronting gender-based violence. Her singles resonate with warmth, and her content is spiritual, mind-blowing, and Christ-centered.
As the founder of Women in HipHop EC/SA and co-founder of Temple Of Skills, blending a clothing brand with music production, StaticFlo aims to redefine the role of women in society. From hosting the 041 iMakoya music chart show on iMpuma Kapa TV to relocating to Johannesburg in 2022, she continues to make waves.
Johannesburg embraced StaticFlo, offering her opportunities like hosting her podcast, "Women in HipHop," under the Masterclass Network and a successful solo show at Ampd studios. Her surprises didn't end there, as she joined the Hillbrow Radio Station team with her phenomenal Women in Hip Hop show.
For StaticFlo, there are no limits, and she believes that no one owes you anything. With a podcast, events, and a relentless drive, she pushes until she reaches the pinnacle, inspiring a sonic revolution for women in Hip Hop.
