Pt2 SA Hip Hop’s influence on Genres
SA Hip Hop has a lot of influence on multiple genres such as Kwaito, Amapiano, Modern day pop, Maskandi, House & many more
In the early 2000’s we saw a lot of Kwaito acts transitioning into modern rap flows with a mixture of local South African flavors.
This led to a lot of Kwaito acts such as African pop star Brenda Fassie, Arthur Mafikate, Zola, Mandoza, Trompies, Mzekezeke, Brown Dash, Mahoota, Spikiri, Mzambiya, Chippa, Msawawa, Mshoza, Thembi Seite, Thandiswa Mazwai, Brikz,TKZee, Unathi & many more more entering the mainstream.
SA Hip Hop also heavily influenced one of the fastest-growing phenomena “ Amapiano. “
“ Amapiano “ is currently the most commercialized genre in Africa and is on high rotation at clubs, radio, tv & the streets.
Most Amapiano acts share a very similar taste much like and are heavily influenced by “SA Hip Hop culture “
A lot of the flows used on “ Amapiano “ are also heavily influenced by “ SA Hip Hop “. Such as Bopha, Izolo, Mlansi,
Some argue that “ Amapiano “ would not exist if it was not for SA Hip Hop.
After all most of the biggest Amapiano acts started as Hip Hop acts or had a significant influence namely:
Young Stunna, Reason, Dj Maphorisa, Sir Trill just to make a few.
What do you think, is the statement true? That “ Amapiano “ Would not exist if it was not for SA Hip Hop?

ReplyDeleteTrue amapiano and hiphop are like brother and sister.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the influence but I can agree with the fact that amapiano artists use rap flows.
ReplyDeleteLeave amapiano alone it's doing well without hiphop
