Wandile Mthiyane, better known by his stage name " Chrisley The Bohemian Rebel " was born in Durban & grew up in Johannesburg. Chrisley is a qualified sound engineer, producer, recording artist, voice artist & actor.
Chrisley fell in love with rap music at a very young age. It all started when he & his older cousins would stay up late at night watching & recording old-school rap music videos on a video recorder.
Chrisley wrote his very first rap song at the age of 12. At the age of 13, his interest & passion for music grew in leaps & bounds. Chrisley was given the opportunity by former 5FM radio DJ Nicole Fox to tour the SABC studios in Auckland Park, Johannesburg.
When he began high school he started making beats on a software
called EJay Hip Hop 5 & always kept an exercise book where he wrote his lyrics. Since he did not like interacting with his classmates. Chrisley would often freestyle for some of his peers during break times & perform poetry in Dramatic Arts classes.
Chrisley is influenced by the likes of 2 Pac, Eminem, D12, Big Pun, Notorious B.I.G, Was, Big L & Onyx.
After finishing high school he enrolled at The Academy Of Sound Engineering to study sound but later dropped out due to poor academics.
In 2013 he then decided to enroll at City Varsity Johannesburg
Campus where he began getting good marks.
In 2014 his former lecturer Kevin Liecher (producer & musician) encouraged him to spend more time in the studio after classes to learn the equipment, that was where he found his passion for
recording & engineering sessions.
In 2015 he transferred to City Varsity Cape Town Campus to study further. In 2016 he would still hone his skills as a lyricist
& go out on film shoots to do location sound.
In 2017 he graduated with his 2nd qualification which is an Advanced Diploma, this is the same year he started & registered his own record label/production company called Bohemian Rebel Entertainment which consists of music & post-production.
In 2018 Chrisley attended a hip hop showcase on the outskirts of Bellville in the Western Cape called Northern Lights for upcoming artists. He met the likes of Charin Schuller aka Queen Pin CPT who is also a close friend.
He also feels it was through her (Queen Pin CPT) that he was
able to explore the Cape Town Hip Hop scene & get into live cyphers,
and performances, and also further explore life in the Cape Flats. This was the same year he got the opportunity to get on the Good Hope FM DJ Ready D Cypher hosted by South African legends " DJ Ready D " & " DJ Eazy."
He also rapped on DJ Oskido’s Rap Activity Jam on Metro FM where he started performing at open mic sessions in local club scenes throughout the City Of Cape Town on weekends to get his name out.
In 2019 Chrisley released a song called Hold You Down, which was done over an instrumental produced by The Alchemist. In 2019 his biggest highlight was performing a couple of times at The Blaq Pearl Foundation’s Chilling With The Poet. He also made his 2nd appearance on Good Hope FM's DJ Ready D Cypher.
He also made his first appearance on the Bush Radio FM Cypher hosted by DJ Yuzriq Meyer.
In 2020 Chrisley was allowed to take part in The Hip Hop 411
Cypher Cape Town Edition alongside Queen Pin CPT, Kanyi Mavi, MC Burgz & various other rappers in Western Cape. He also made it to the Top 30 in The Cape Town Exposed Talent Show.
In 2021 Chrisley also got the opportunity to perform
at The Hip Hop Reunion at The Box Shop in Soweto.
In 2022 Chrisley The Bohemian Rebel took part in " Massiv Metro’s Hip Hop On The Grind’s Khafula, One Must Die battle of 16’s where he emerged victorious & had one of his songs
played on air.
He also later released a
visual performance video he had
done with Music Colours called
The Arrival (Produced By TIC
Entertainment). The song The
Arrival later played on radio
stations such as Good Hope FM,
Alex FM, Durban Youth Radio
Station & Hillbrow Radio.
He has
also performing in local showcases
around the Johannesburg CBD
area.
Chrisley is currently finishing
off a project which he plans to
release to the public in early 2023.
